How should a hospice prioritize its service delivery?
If a hospice needs to establish a waiting list, it must develop an open process. The HAO Policies and Procedures manual says that hospices should place clients/caregivers on the list on a first come first served basis, use criteria for priority of service to assess client/caregiver needs on an ongoing basis, and inform clients/caregivers in writing of the procedures for wait list management.
