Did they definately diagnose your dog with Gastroenteritis? Basically its a fancy name for upset stomach. My dog gets this on a regular basis because she eats crap outside, acorns, dirt etc and then ends up with diarrhea and vomiting. Once she got a severe enough case she had blood in her stool and started vomiting. The vets will give fluids to combat dehydration and a shot to stop vomiting. Usually I’m sent home with Metronidazole for gastroenteritis, it does not make her sleepy, however the side effects include nausea, vomiting, weakness, anemia, liver damage, blood in the urine, and loss of appetite. They also give her sucralfate which is to be given in a slurry and it’s to coat the stomach for ulcers, the only side affect is constipation. Your dog is probably lethargic because she feels so bad and dehydration will do that also. Depends on the medication that you were prescribed would depend on if they were making her sleepy or not, chances are it’s because she’s sick and not feelin
