How serious is it to sign a MAR sheet before giving medication to a vulnerable person?
I can only speak for OK and TX, but it’s against state policy. It’s very serious and your friend could be prosecuted for it. He wouldn’t unless he also was pocketing the meds or making other serious mistakes. But, still, it’s a very serious offense. The company he is working for would be held liable if anything were to happen to the person in his care. To give you a real-life example: The company I worked for went through an audit. At 2 times during the audit, the auditor found predocumentation of meds (signing the MAR hours before meds were actually given. the worker did this so they didn’t forget to sign afterwards, also a serious offense.). The company was put on vendor hold for nearly 6 months. Meaning, they could not accept new business, which means no new patients, no new money. It’s very difficult for a social serivces agency to survive w/ no new money. Needless to say, both of those workers lost their jobs.
