How serious bilirubin level 19 in new born?

25 or 26 is when you would really start to worry because there is a possibility of brain damage when it gets higher than that. This rarely happens though since it is fairly common for newborns to be jaundiced and pediatricians are prepared to deal with it right away. You have to keep an eye out constantly until it goes away. If your baby is out from under the lights, there is a good chance the bilirubin will go down for good now but you may have to keep testing to be sure. My daughter had to go into the hospital for 3 days when she was 2 days old and it was 2 weeks later that she was down to a normal level. We tested her about 3 times to be sure after she checked out of the hospital. Don’t be afraid to harrass your pediatrician to keep testing. 🙂 I was even hysterical enough to insist the doc look at her before everyone else in the waiting room, lol. Good luck, I know your baby will be OK.
