How serious are the effects of the effluent?
For the purposes of EEM, effects are considered serious if they have an impact on the sustainable use of a fisheries resource, or if the zone of impact gets larger over time. This is not the case downstream of the Pickard Centre discharge, where the fish community is not affected, and there is no reason to believe (based on the data that have been acquired over the past four years) that the zone of impact is getting or should get larger over time. As a result, the effect is considered relatively minor. Continued monitoring is planned to verify that these conditions do not change over time. Studies to determine the specific cause of observed effects will also be continued. Any additional observed changes in the receiving environment will be communicated to the public.
