How see sky first time by telescope?
Align the finder during the daytime. First, pick out a distant, non-moving object and get the big telescope centered on that object. Now, adjust the finder scope on that same object. Is it a red dot finder? Or is it a cross-hair little telescope? Either way, be sure the two are aligned before night. It is frustrating not to be able to find objects. If you have a red-dot finder, buy a spare battery now. I promise it will come in handy when the original battery wears out. Planets are small and bright. Start with low power (17mm) and center the planet carefully before switching to 9mm. In eyepieces, the smaller the focal length, the higher is the magnification. Most objects in the sky are large and dim. Andromeda galaxy is 6 full moons across. For dim objects, use lowest power. As magnification goes up, brightness of whole field goes down. Same light in telescope spread out over bigger picture makes a dimmer view. Your telescope is equatorial type mount. Set polar axis to latitude of your
