How secure is Tom Coughlin with Bill Cowher seemingly sending out Giant feelers?
Jerome Bettis appears to be carrying his former head coach’s water and sending a signal that he’s interested in 2011 if the Giants are. If not for the Super Bowl ring — a huge “if not for” — Coughlin would have been fired after the team so clearly tuned him out in December. Cowher of course is the No. 1 coaching candidate on the market, and if Coughlin can’t right the ship in 2010, he’s an option that must be considered. Cowher is 10 years younger than Coughlin, who is 63. What about the offense? There’s better news here. Eli Manning had a 7.9 yards per pass attempt, which is elite even in this era where we are really top heavy with very good-to-great quarterbacks. You have to go back to Y.A. Tittle in 1963-64 to find a Giants passing game that was better. Manning’s progress in realizing his draft day expectations as a true franchise-level quarterback was the best news to come out of this season, and its importance cannot be overstated. The receiving corps is good enough, especially
