How Secularization is presented in Arab World?
Being brought up in Arab countries (mainly Egypt) I witnessed how many Arab regimes are secular and are undertaking secularization processes vigorously. They are so dedicated towards rejecting and suppressing any form of religious presence in the society. Sometimes this was done blatantly like in the case of Turkey and Tunisia, while in other times it was done in a less shameless way as in Egypt and Algeria. Secularization on the other hand was presented to the people as the only righteous solution by which any country can develop. They claim that it is the road to development and prosperity. Any opposing view was labelled as terrorist, ignorant, fundamentalist. It would also be immediately “accused” of attempting to turn the respective country to Iran or a second Afghanistan.
