How safe would an australian be, walking alone in an Indian city at night ?
It is not safe in many cities in India – day or night! I was taken on a tour, in Calcutta, by a senior police officer (about 7-8 years ago) & he advised me not to even get out of the vehicle during the tour. He said I was liable to be mobbed by local beggar types & would lose any valuables I had on me. We also visited a red light area – that was scarey & I was told to keep a low profile, even while in the vehicle. There were many no-go areas of the city. far, far worse than anything we have here.
