How safe is western union bank?
I know this is a scam because I encountered the same thing so many times when I moved to London and was looking for a place to live. NOBODY in London uses Western Union – that’s a payment system used by people in poor countries who can’t open bank accounts or Nigerian scammers posting fake housing listings NO UK landlord will ever ask you to do this. They run a credit check on you to make sure you have money or ask for a letter from your employer or bank manager – they don’t ask you to wire money to anyone through Western Union. Western Union is non-refundable – the scammers know this. You have NO way to get your money back This is a VERY common scam that has been reported thousands of times including on the BBC. DO NOT become another victim http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/arti…
This is a definite scam!! The way the scam works is that the scammer will ask you to make a Western Union transfer to yourself or someone you know and send them a copy of the receipt so that he/she can verify that you can afford the payment. The scammer will then STEAL your Western Union transfer. Western Union transfers can be picked up anywhere in the world, regardless of the address listed for the receiver, with a minimum of ID (or none!). Stop all contact with the scammers and read more below to educate yourself against other scam attempts like this. This is a known rental scam, please see this forum at ScamWarners.com for a ton of examples just like yours: http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewfor… (and you can post yours there too, to warn others).
Western Union is a company that provides money transfers. It isn’t a bank. This is a high likelihood of being a scam. Once you transfer money via Western Union, it’s gone and you can’t get it back. It’s wise to be suspicious when someone you don’t know personally insists on payment through Western Union.
