How safe is Lipascor®?
Many efficacy and safety studies have been done in China on Lipascor® (xuezhikang®). All the studies have clearly shown that Lipascor® (xuezhikang®) is safe and effective for treatment of hyperlipidemia. In addition, no toxic effect was observed in animal toxicity studies when 533 times the normal human dose of xuezhikang® was fed to study animals. The LD50 dose could not be determined in these studies. A 5-year Chinese Coronary Secondary Prevention Study involving 5000 patients is currently being conducted in China (since 1998). This study will look at the long term efficacy and safety of Lipascor® (xuezhikang®) in the secondary prevention of coronary heart diseases. According to interim report, very low incidence of side effects was reported in this double blind randomised placebo controlled trial.
