How safe is 3D/4D ultrasound?
Diagnostic ultrasound is considered one of the safest means for obtaining information about your unborn baby. It has been in use since the late 1950’s and, according to the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), “No confirmed biological effects on patients or instrument operators caused by exposure at intensities typical of present diagnostic ultrasound instruments have ever been reported.
Ultrasound has been a routine practice in prenatal care throughout the U.S. It has been studied for over 35 years, and has been shown to cause no harm to either the mother or the baby. Your 3D/4D ultrasound session utilizes the same type of ultrasound as a regular 2D scan performed in the doctor’s office. The power or intensity DOES NOT change when moving from 2D to 3D/4D. It is actually a new computer software in our systems, NOT a different type of ultrasound, that creates these remarkable images.
