How Safe Are Prescription Medications During Pregnancy?
“Hello I’m Michelle Collins and I’m a certified nurse midwife and professor of nursing at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and I’m here to talk about the safety of medications during pregnancy. Medications can be over-the-counter or they can be prescription. As far as how safe they can be, both can be dangerous to a developing fetus so the most important thing is that you talk with your OB provider, your midwife or your physician prior to becoming pregnant about any medications that you may be taking. Especially during the first trimester some medications can be more harmful to the developing fetus. Always there should be a discussion of risks versus benefits when you’re discussing medications with your provider.
