How respected were Ferdinand Magellan, Christopher Columbus and Francis Drake in their country?

0

I don’t think any of them were respected by their own country because they were all sponsored by other countries. Ex. Christopher Columbus was from Portugal and they would not sponsore his trip, but Spain did.
