How representative are the characters in the series of the Navy population?
A. The characters presented throughout the series were self-selected or chosen by PBS Thus, what the viewer sees are a dozen or so ‘soda-straw’ perspectives of a deployment on an aircraft carrier. There are nearly five thousand more, and very unique, such perspectives on NIMITZ alone. The themes of sacrifice, hard work, self-challenge and professional and personal growth are consistent with most Sailors who serve deployed.
