How realistic is it for nationals from countries at war or in civil turmoil to get criminal records?
• DfT accepts that in some cases it will not be possible to obtain criminal record information from overseas authorities. In such cases DfT may accept, instead, a sworn oath and a character reference from someone who holds a position which is itself subject to a high degree of background checking. DfT may conduct regular reviews of that person’s clearance, should it be granted.
