How Rare A Vehicle Is The Land Rover Series 2A 1-Ton 109?
Quite rare. Only 308 were built between 1969 and 1971 when production of the 2A ceased to make way for the new Series 3 model. Of the 308 built during that three year period, slightly more than half, 170, were Home Market specification, 52 were right hand drive export models and 64 left hand drive export models. The 109 1-Ton did continue in production until 1977 but was based post-1971 on the Series 3. Around 450 Series 3 109s are thought to have been built. On the basis that three quarters of all Land Rover production is still on the road, there could be fewer than 130 Series 2A 1-ton 109 in the UK, probably substantially fewer. 2A 1-Ton 109s can be identified by their extra large wheels (9.00 x 16), drop shackle suspension and the chassis number prefixes, 222, 223, 229 or 231. Most were originally fitted with 83 brake horse power 2.6 litre six cylinder petrol engines. A batch of 22, however, was specially built in 1970-1971 and fitted with the smaller 2.25 litre four cylinder engine
