Diabetic retinopathy is a very prevalent among diabetics. Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in diabetics ages 20-75. Nearly all patients who have had type 1 diabetes for about 20 years have some degree of diabetic retinopathy. 21% of people with type 2 diabetes have diabetic retinopathy when they are first diagnosed, and most will develop the condition over time.
