How plentiful hours does a cardiothoracic surgeon typically work a week?

Depends on the CT surgeon’s work arrangement. Even those in a group work a lot of hours. Where I work, there’s 3 contained by the group, 2 who do mostly hearts and 1 who does mostly lungs. The heart guys both work during the day, and one or the other is on call at darkness for hearts. They start early and work late. If I have to guess, I’d say most work over 80 hours a week – not only do they operate, but they have to see family in the office and make rounds on the inpatients, and if someone is trying to die within the ICU, they have to be on top of that as well. They create a lot of money, but earn every penny of it.
