How pagan is christmas ?
From what I’ve heard Christmas has some deeply pagan roots. The date was used to attract pagans towards Catholicism since the 21st of Dec. was the ‘winter solstice’. This started in 350 when Pope Julius I declared Christs’ birthday to be celebrated on the 25th. Also in ancient Babylonian Dec. 25th was the feast of the son of Isis (Egyptian Goddess of nature). Yule logs were burned in honour of the sun. Yule meaning wheel, and the wheel being a pagan symbol for Sun. Kissing under the mistletoe (sacred plant) used to be a fertility ritual as well. The tree was to unite everyone on the Winter solstice and to bring in during snow to remind everyone crops will grow again. All-in-all, Christmas is very pagan in nature, just disguised as Christian.
