How old will the youth staying at the Durham Youth Housing facility be and will it be co-ed?
The youth we want to help are age 16 to 24 and in some cases up to 29 years of age. They are youth who are homeless with no resources and at risk of continued living on the streets. Yes, the DYHSS shelter will be co-ed with strict security, rules and regulations for guests accessing temporary shelter or any of our proposed services. • How will the Durham Region support a youth shelter? The Region of Durham is providing per diem funding ($44.75 per bed per day) for the interim 10-bed shelter. Also, with the support of the Region of Durham, DYHSS has received funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, to hire an experienced Executive Director to run the shelter, develop services, establish partnerships, and lead a fundraising drive to ensure that we achieve our objectives.
