How old was Tom when he began modelling?
The usual age given for Tom’s “discovery” by a model scout, even by Tom himself, is 21. However, Tom’s first modelling job was for the Christmas 1997 edition of Abercrombie & Fitch Quarterly; since Tom was born in 1977, he couldn’t have been any more than 20 years of age when the shoot took place. Unless he’s a year older than he claims to be, Tom wouldn’t have turned 21 until 1998. There is even some evidence to suggest that Tom may have been only 19 when he was first spotted! Tom has mentioned that he was spotted while vacationing during the early Spring, and since he wouldn’t have turned 20 until April 26th there’s a possibility that he was still a teenager at the time.
