How old must a stud dog be before it can be bred?

It is too young and genetic tests cannot be performed at that age. The dog should have been at least 2 years old and have all the genetic tests for its breed performed and the results back to the owner before the dog is bred. It should also be a good example of the breed. The dog should also be registered with a reputable registry such as AKC, Canadian Kennel Club.

No dog should rightfully be breed till two years of age and thats is because genetic testing can’t be done till the dog is of this age. Also dogs do not fully mature until two years of are especially for the female breeding any younger can actually cause more problems than breeding a dog of mature age. Yes 10 months old is way to young to breed a dog but reality is many do not do genetic testing and they just breed for many of the wrong reasons. A repuable breeder will not breed a dog under two years of age.

I believe AKC has regulations about the age a dog can be in order to have a litter registered.

Yep. NO dog male or female should be bred before the age of two.

Too early. Cavs have congenital heart defects that must be tested for yearly. Plus CERF yearly because of inherent eye issues. Two years old is when they can get OFA on heart, hips and elbows. I would certainly never buy a cavi without those tests.
