How old is a puppy when he is considered full grown?

Size wise they are mostly full grown at 6 months old. If they grow any more it is very little.. They are not matured until 1 year old.

Since Aster came to live with us at 10 years old, I realize the 3 puppies we have had since then have grown more than I thought without her to compare them to. From 6 months they may from a inch shorter than her to an inch taller at a year. Even if kept lean and healthy, they fill out more between a year and 1 1/2 years. Smaller breeds finish their growth sooner. For the larger breeds, it is best to switch to adult chow early, 4 months, or 7 if on a large breed puppy chow. That slows growth allowing more time to develop sturdy joints. Their personality isn’t mature until 3 years.
