How old does my child need to be in order to start taking guitar lessons?

Every child is different. The child does need to be big enough to physically handle the guitar. There are instrument sizes designed specifically for small children (usually a ‘half size’ or ‘3/4 size guitar). We usually recommend that the you wait to start your child until after the kindergarten experience. Once a child reaches the first grade level they seem to be more capable of keeping to a regular (but fairly light) practice schedule. We do not recommend pushing a child into a heavy practice schedule at an early age.
