It depends on what state you’re in. It can be as young as 14 should the state law allow it and the Wal-Mart in question has the appropriate permits to hire a minor. Most states also regulate the number of hours a minor can work. You may be limited to as little as eight hours per week. Most Wal-Marts (and major employers) don’t typically hire minors because it’s just as easy to hire an adult and not have to deal with the documentation or rules surrounding having a juvenille employee. If you’re really interested in working you may want to contact your state department of employment. They will likely have a youth program with coordinators who will know what business would be willing to hire you.
