How old are the characters in the great gatsby?
The ages of the characters are never specifically given in the novel. However, we can make some inferences based on the historical events mentioned in the book. Gatsby went overseas to WW I in 1917, so he was probably born around the turn of the century. Since the action in the novel takes place in the “Roaring Twenties”, shortly before the “Wall Street crash” of 1929, Gatsby would have to be in his late 20s or very early 30s. Presumably the other characters are roughly about the same age.
