How often would the OLF be used to conduct FCLP training?
Although the OLF would provide the Navy with 24 hour, 7 days a week availability, it would not be utilized 24/7. While FCLP training is generally conducted on average 10-months each year for two to three weeks each month, dependent on operational requirements, the tempo of operations at the OLF would not be regular. Approximately 70 percent of training is conducted after dark (dark is defined as 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes prior to sunrise). On average, there would be one to two training sessions daily (e.g., normally Sunday afternoon through daytime Friday), with four to five aircraft performing eight to ten touch-and-goes within a 45-minute period. Periods of increased operation may be followed by periods of few or no operations. With two OLFs available to conduct FCLP training, operations would generally be completed before 10 p.m. each day, except during summer months when hours of available darkness are most limited.
