How often should the automatic transmission be serviced?
The service schedule varies depending on the vehicle manufacturer & if any adjustments are required. Most are serviced every 40,000km or 2 years. The good workshops like ours are able to take an oil sample & using an analysis tool, see how much the oil has formed sludge or is breaking down by & advise if replacement is needed. If the vehicle is used for more than 20,000km every year, we would recommend it be serviced once a year. If the vehicle is used for towing constantly, we strongly advise having an aftermarket oil cooler fitted to reduce the oil from overheating, as well as using a 100% synthetic auto transmission oil (most manufacturers still use a mineral oil unless stated otherwise). This same analysis tool can check the engine oil, differential oil, gearbox oil & brake fluid for the same contamination & advise if replacement is required.
