How often should power steering fluid & brake fluid be flushed?
Power steering fluid: Remove as much as possible with a bulb type turkey baster. Then refill with appropriate fluid. Some vehicles use power steering fluid, some A/T fluid. Check your manual or the top of your steering fluid cap. Once you refill, start and turn the wheel back and forth a few times to rid any air in the system. You can also remove most of the brake fluid in the same manner, then refill and bleed the brakes quite a bit, maybe half the tank for each wheel. When the do it in the shop, they use a pressure or vacuum system that drives or sucks the fluid out thru the bleed screw. This is a bit harder procedure, and you could have it done when you do you next brake job. It shouldn’t cost as much then. Brake fluid absorbs moisture. BUT, by all means, do the power steering yourself. You’ll get enough old fluid out using the above method.
