How often should I change the water in a 10 gallon tank?
With only one betta per 10 gal tank ammonia and nitrites should be too much of a problem. To start with don’t overfeed, check your ammonia and nitrite levels at lease every 3 days and if there is any sign of ammonia do a 10% to 25% water change, if there is no sign of ammonia or nitrite do the change once a week. When you get to the point where you don’t see any sign of ammonia or nitrite for about a month check your levels once a week and do a 10% to 25% water change once a week even if the ammonia and nitrite are at 0. The bacteria that developes in your tank changes the left over food and fish waste into ammonia then to nitrite and then to nitrate. Nitrate is the end of the cycle, in nature the nitrates feed plant life and the cycle goes on but in the closed invironment of your tank the only way for the nitrates to get out is you, your syphon hose (always syphon from the bottom, removing as much of the debris as possible), and your bucket. The reason that you should never change all
