How often should a child have dental X-rays taken?
How often x-rays are taken varies on a case-by-case basis. Your child will be examined in order to decide if x-rays are necessary. In general, children need x-rays more often than adults because of the constant developmental changes that occur in the mouth. In addition, they are more susceptible to cavities than adults. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends x-ray examinations every six months for children with a high risk of tooth decay. Children with a low risk of tooth decay require x-rays less frequently.
