How often should a chemical straightener (relaxer) be redone?

*Chemical Strengtheners/Relaxers should only be performed by a lisenced professional. In general, a relaxer could be touched up any where between 7 -10 weeks. However, there are exceptions. There are many factors that determine how often a relaxer should be touched up. Three of the most important factors to consider are the length of your hair (as well as the desired length), the presence of permanent color, and the strength of your hair. If your hair is permanently colored (the lighter the color the more careful you need to be) your stylist needs to coordinate your touch-up with your color application so there is at least 2 weeks in between the processes. This may require you to wait a full 8 weeks. For women who wear short cropped cuts, the hairline may become unruly and difficult to style at the 4 week mark. It is then permissible to get a hairline touch up every four weeks to keep the style looking fresh. However, if you want to eventually achieve a longer style, it is not advised
