How often should 360 feedback assessments be repeated?

Many companies administer their 360s annually in an effort to strike a balance: to survey enough to keep leadership feedback top of mind, and to allow enough time for implementation / change.  Mergers, lay-offs, re-organizations can affect 360 survey cycles. Additional factors to take into account:  how long leader(s) have been with company / in current position, time investment per survey administration (ie survey length, number of people raters must rate)

Given that people need time to make change, and then time for that change to be seen by others, we recommend that somewhere between 6 and 18 month intervals are most appropriate. This allows people to work through their development and action plans to create change.
