How often I have to visit the high school counselor and what to ask him?
As a parent of a freshman student I would call and set up an appointment with the counselor to introduce myself. I would discuss who you are and what choices my child has for their courses and what your child’s future goals are and how to attain them. I would have my child with me at this meeting. Since you are new to the USA and each state has their own curriculums I would ask for clarification on what these are. In some states each county has their own curriculum, in some states each city has their own curriculum. NY, has a state curriculum, Florida goes by counties and Maine each city has their own curriculum. I would also want to meet all the teachers that my student has. I would ask one of his/her teachers to set up that appointment. I always want my child to be present with me. Tell the teachers that if they see any problem to call or email you immediately.
