How often does the Navy conduct Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP)?
In support of the Navy’s Fleet Response Plan (FRP), each of the five east coast Carrier Air Wings (CVW) conducts Carrier Qualification (CQ) exercises approximately seven times over the 32-month FRP training cycle, with each CQ exercise preceded by FCLP training. Additionally, the F/A-18C, F/A-18E/F, and E-2/C-2 Fleet Replacement Squadrons (FRS) each conduct FCLP training an average six times per year for student pilots. FCLP training, on average, is conducted 10-months each year for a period of two to three weeks each month, often with multiple CVWs and/or FRSs conducting training concurrently. The training is generally conducted Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon, with four to five aircraft performing eight to ten touch-and-goes within a 45-minute period.
