How often does the Fire Department conduct fire inspections of buildings in Winona?

0

Winona adopts, through City Council action, the Minnesota State Fire Code for the purpose of prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous to life and property. The International Fire Code is a model code that is adopted by the State of Minnesota and is enforceable by State Law. Enforcement of the fire code, by building inspections, is the duty of the City Fire Marshall and Fire Inspector. Such inspections may be conducted as often as may be necessary, as determined by the Chief or his appointed representative. Ideally this would be at least once each year. However, due to the number of properties in Winona that require a fire inspection and only two fire department personnel conducting the inspections, they are conducted approximately every 2-3 years. The inspections are usually conducted in groups according to the building occupancy, such as manufacturing, mercantile, drinking establishments, etc. For further information concerning fire inspections, feel free to call (507) 4
