How often does a worker need to be trained in WHMIS?
There is no specific time frame stated by the legislation, however, it does state that workers must know and be able to apply the information when working. If a worker has been transferred to another area where different controlled products are being used, they should be retrained on those products. Inspectors and consultants strongly recommend annual refresher training on WHMIS because the courts have ruled in many cases that trainingevery 2 or 3 years is not sufficient and does not provide “due diligence”. It always depends upon the judge ruling on the case. Back to Top 5.
