How often do map sites update their satellite images?
In areas that are searched often, and are undergoing major changes, they are more likely to update the photos. If you lived in an established residential area that is not viewed very often then your area likely wasn’t a priority for updating. The satellite orbits don’t allow them to update each area every few weeks or anything like that, they very strategically plan the orbits to cover areas that need updating, this may mean years before they get back to your area. An example is the recent search for Steve Fossett. Satellites were tasked to take high resolution images of almost the entire state of Nevada, and parts of several other states. Having the satellites retasked to do this cost the financers significant amounts of money, likely in the tens of millions. Thats why it isn’t done for every missing plane. I have heard that the average residential area is updated about every 3 years, more often in high construction areas. You’ll also notice that higher demand produces better resoluti
