How often do hermit crabs change their shells?
There is no set time hermit crabs change shells. They will change on their own accord. Some crabs will change every other day, while others never seem to change. As long as you provide a variety of shells(at least three similar sized shell per crab) you’ll be fine unless there are extenuating circumstances. You don’t have to buy shells at a pet shop, just go to a craft store like Michale’s or even Wal Mart(shells will be a bit more expensive, but it’s still cheaper than Petco). Boiling in water with high calcium(add some cuttle bone to the water) may increase their interest, as will switiching shells out, but for the most part your crabs will be fine.
