How often are therapy sessions scheduled?
There is no hard and fast rule about frequency of therapy sessions. Typically, weekly sessions are scheduled, as my experience has been that generally good continuity and progress can be established and maintained at a weekly pace. However, a period of meeting more often may be recommended or desired by clients in an acutely stressful situation, when more intensive therapy may be needed. After a period of time, it may be helpful to extend the period between sessions (e.g., once every 2-3 weeks) as significant progress and growth has been achieved. Again, as with all aspects of the therapy relationship, joint or collaborative discussion about such issues is strongly encouraged.
