How often are the rules of counterpoint used in modern music (specifically film music?)?
Good counterpoint is what separates good music from great music, which holds true even in today’s era of “anything goes” when it comes to tonality. Although most film composers aren’t worried about parallel 5ths/8ves in full orchestral texture, good doublings and good voice leading principles will still be used by anyone worth their salt so the music sounds full and lush.
