How often are banks emptied and why do sites sometimes look untidy?
The busiest banks are emptied twice a week. If there is a regular pattern of overflowing, extra banks or more emptying is organised. Extra banks and more frequent emptying is arranged over the Christmas and New Year period. Unfortunately people often makes things worse by leaving large amounts of bottles around banks even when there is space in the bank. Recycling sites are cleaned on a regular basis by the site owner, collection staff and (if the bank is on public land) as part of the normal street cleansing schedule for that area. Additionally banks are jet washed on a regular basis to clear away grime.
