How often and how much should I feed goldfish fry?
Goldfish fry carry a food sack which will support them for two days. After this they become free swimming and will start looking for food. They feed on the microscopic life (natural or introduced by you) in the water for several days before they are large enough to start eating powdered food. The best food to feed them at this stage is live baby brine shrimp (nauplii), which can be cultured quite easily (cysts, about 25-27 degrees celcius saltwater and an airpump). Fry must be fed smaller amounts of food more times a day than grown fish, say four smaller feedings per day. If you feed more than the fish are able to eat within a few (five) minutes, more frequent water changes are needed to keep the water from fouling up. When they are larger (about an inch) you can start feeding them finely crushed flakes and other specially formulated fish food once or twice a day (not too much at a time).
