How noisy are the helicopters?
Each helicopter landing or takeoff generates approximately 8-10 minutes of continuous noise. This includes noise from the helicopter’s approach and descent (or ascent and departure) as well as the time the helicopter spends on the roof cooling down or starting up. The loudest noise occurs during approach and landing, and during the initial lift off when leaving. In late May, Children’s conducted a helicopter noise test and published its findings. The following should be considered with respect to the test and its results: ·The helicopters flew more than 100’ higher than the proposed height of the helipad, diminishing the echo effects of noise frequently experienced from nearby tall buildings in the neighborhood. ·Noise measurements revealed that the noise with windows open was significantly higher than with the windows closed (e.g., noise increased from 54 dB to 77 dB on the 36th floor of Olympia Centre and from 53 dB to 75 dB on the 40th floor of Water Tower one block away). ·Seven ou
