How must play areas be prepared before installing Rubber Mulch?
Our experts recommend clearing the ground completely of rocks, debris, and stumps. We also suggest complete removal of any old surfacing material. When left on the ground and covered with Rubber Mulch, old materials may continue to rot or attract insects. Additionally, old surface materials may reduce the shock-absorption level of Rubber Mulch by making their way to the surface and mixing with the tire chips. The entire prepared area should be calculated to include a “use” or “fall zone” of 6-8 additional feet around the play equipment. We also recommend surrounding the play area with our 6″ or 8″ rubber curbs which retain the Rubber Mulch, and installing a fabric filter to prevent weed growth under the rubber.
