How much would ink for printers cost for an exam board every year?
It has long been shown that the much promised ‘saving of paper’ that computers were supposed to bring has not happened. In fact much the opposite, as people prefer paper to screen, will frequently print out drafts as well as the final result. etc. Scanned copies are not as manipuatable as formatted documents. Exam boards also need to provide hard certifcates and printed certfied records at some point. You really need to show which parts of the process you think can be eliminated and therefore ‘saved’ by being electronic. Then add back in the costs of electronic maintainence… – technicians to rebuild PC’s/support users – Software licences – updating of antivirus – updateing of hardware every 2-3 years as it is no longer powerful enough – updateing of Operating systems as Microsoft forces your hand (again) – retraining on new software for the new OS. – Archiving, duplicate copy and refreshing of archived electronic media (it does not last forever/has to be reverified periodically), har
