I don’t know where these people are getting $40. For any tattoo, you can pretty much expect $100 (not including tip, of course!) or more. Many shops start at $50 for the tattoo and then go by size.

all tattoo parlors are different. Your gonna have to check on the price at the shop. FYI sometimes the areas that you get them in can cost you more like feet and hands. And also make sure that the lettering is going to be big enough to in 15 years it doesnt look like hell.
