How much would a 55 gallon fish tank weigh?
You just have to break it down and know what you are going to have. Just calculate the weight of the stand, tank (empty, just glass), weight of water in it, substrate, equipment and decorations (not much weight probably). Below should round it out for you, this is a guess though because of not knowing the specifics about the tank ( I have a coustom 55 with glass as thick as my 150 gallon, so it is a lot heavier than a standard 55). Stand = about 30 pounds (guessing it is wood) Tank = Empty weight should be about 60 pounds Water weight = Gallon weighs 8.34 pounds, at 50 gallons (minus 5 gallons for substrate displacement) is 417 pounds. Substrate = regular gravel at 1 inch deep would be 30 pounds, regular gravel at 2 inch deep would be 60. You add that all up you get: Stand = 30 Tank = 60 Water = 417 Substrate = 45 (meet in the middle) +————————————-… 552 pounds. Either way you are not lifting it, so make sure to place it where you want it and empty the water out
