Workers compensation is intended to replace lost wages as a result of disability from employment. Federal law differentiates the amount of compensation awarded according to the number of dependants a disabled employee supports. A disabled employee without dependents receives compensation equal to two thirds the individual gross weekly salary normally earned. If the disabled employee has dependents, compensation will equal three quarters of the workers gross weekly salary. These amounts are tax free.
